Woods and Matthews Wins Open

Tiger Woods has showed that he is now back on form as he won the Buick Open title. He won by a massive three shots at Warwick Hills and it has left him eager for more.

In the final round he was one shot ahead of the pack and he birdied the fourth, seventh and 16th holes. He later parred the rest for a three under 69. He finished the tournament on an incredible 20 under par and is now firmly in place at the World number one top spot!

Roland Thatcher had a great final round with a 64 and had a fantastic eight birdies to take a tied second place with Greg Chalmers and John Senden. Michael Letzig had a disappointing final round when he was one shot behind Woods and had a final round of 73.

This was Woods’ 69th PGA win and there are only two other people who have won more. Sam Snead and Jack Nicklaus have both won more and Tiger looks as if he wants to chase the title.

At one point there was some concern as Woods change golf clubs to hit his ball into the green protecting lake on the 13th. However this was a par five and he later put a wedge to four feet to save this could be disastrous hole. Letzig was playing with Woods and had a bad final round with a double bogey at the par three eighth.

The Ricoh British Women’s Open was won by Catriona Matthew at Royal Lytham and St. Annes this week. Matthews, 39, led overnight by three shots and retained this lead in the final round against Karrie Webb.

Australia’s Karrie Webb was closely following Matthews as she closed with a four under par 68 to finish level. In joint third was Paula Creamer, Christina Kim, Ai Miyazato and Hee-Won.

Matthews gave birth to her second child only 11 weeks ago and has made a remarkable recovery.  She is the fourth Briton to win a major and the first since Karen Stupples triumphed at the Womens British Open in 2004.
“There have been times when I’ve wondered if I was ever going to win a major. I though time was beginning to run out.” She said.

Matthews did not have the best of starts to her round after she bogeyed the 1st and 3rd however was more stable after six successive pars before letting another shot slide away at the tenth. Webb was hot on her toes as she eagled 15 and birdied 16.

However Matthews proved the finer player as she recovered to sink a trio of birdies including a huge 45 foot putt on the 14th.  “That putt on 14 really steadied me. I didn’t play well but I hung in there. I can’t quite believe it. It hasn’t sunk in yet. Coming up the last I had tears in my eyes and I had to hold myself together for those last two putts.”
Last years winner Jiyai Shin began four shots away from the winner and was never in contention after dropping a couple of shots.

Are You Working Too Hard On Your Diet Without Weight Loss

Are you working everyday to lose weight and trying really hard to stick to your diet without weight loss showing up?  You might be over-managing your diet and this can lead to a small results and lots of frustrations.  See if this sounds familiar…

My Dieting Plan of Action:

Decide what to eat for the week, including snacks Get to the grocery store and stock the house with “healthy” foods Read every food label Buy a food journal Measure all the foods you eat Record the carbohydrates/proteins/fats of each food Count every calorie, including chewing gum and coffee creamer Avoid too much sodium Avoid sugar like the plaque Give up, “Who wants to live like this, I would rather deal with the weight.”

We have been taught how to act when on a diet but trying to do too much can easily lead to overwhelm and we are likely to quit in frustration vowing to never go on a diet again!

The problem with diets in general is that they are based on a temporary mindset. The mere fact that you have to “go on” a diet means that you will eventually “go off” of it.

We are willing to go on a diet and do what is necessary to make the diet a success but the whole time we are thinking, “I can’t wait until this is over.”

In order to create a mindset that supports long-term weight loss success we must look at dieting not as a collection of annoying tasks but as an action we are taking to improve our quality of life. This requires a focus shift.

When you over manage your diet you are very focused on the one thing you want to think less of – FOOD. Food becomes the center of the universe on a micro-managed diet because every bit of it is analyzed, measured or weighed. This is a problem because we get what we focus on, if your approach to weight loss is keeping you laser focused on food you will always want more food.

A better solution is to focus on what you will get once you have lost the weight. This creates a target for you that becomes clearer the more you focus on it.

Let’s say you would like to lose 40 pounds, what you want to do is focus on what life will be like without those extra pounds. Put yourself in a movie and look at the world through the eyes of you at your goal weight. What are you wearing, how are you holding your body, how high is your confidence level when you walk in a room.

Make the pounds real to you, pick up something that weighs 40 pounds and try to walk up a flight of stairs. Then put the item down and climb the same stairs, note how much easier it was with less weight, now focus for a moment on how effortless climbing those stairs will be when your body is lighter.

You will still find it necessary to monitor your food intake and plan meals but by shifting your focus away from food and onto the great possibilities that are to be you will find your motivation actually builds and you are much more likely to see your plan through until your goal is reached.

Wie will, Wie will, Rock you

Michelle Wie, the former tee phenom, has winning for the first time as the LPGA Tour’s newly minted champion. After ended a six-year drought Sunday, Wie will arrive LPGA Tour Championship this week.

Inspired by her beloved Stanford Cardinal whipping Southern California 55-21, and nursing a sore left ankle — “I was focused on just trying to finish 18 holes,” she said — Wie closed with a 3-under-69 to finish at 13-under-par 275 to beat Paula Creamer by two shots.

“It’s a huge monkey off my back. A huge gorilla, really,” Wie, 20, said by phone from Mexico an hour after her victory. After tapping in for birdie on the final hole, Wie lifted both arms high above her head as tears streamed down her face. “I didn’t think I would cry but I did. It was everything I expected and more.

“I’m really proud of myself for not giving up and pushing through. It has been so long overdue.”

Wie’s last victory came in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links — in 2003. For a player who moved the needle since she was 12, showed so much promise because of her startling power and poise and told everyone she wanted to play in The Masters, her failure to move into the winner’s circle became as much a burden as a pursuit.

Instead of living up to enormous expectation — she signed multimillion-dollar endorsement deals on her 16th birthday in 2005, was in final-round contention in three major championships at 16 and was named in Time magazine in 2006 as “one of 100 people who shape our world” — Wie’s tale of glory became a cautionary story as her career spiraled downward.

While her stunning teenage success brought her celebrity and millions of dollars, Wie endured two miserable years marked by injuries, swing changes, public relations nightmares, overexposure and heavily criticized decisions to play against men. Her 2007 season was her worst. She finished the year playing 367 holes in 109 over par, had just two rounds in which she finished under par, and had three missed cuts and two withdrawals.

Wie, however, began authoring a new chapter in her life when she decided to attend Stanford and go through LPGA Q School last December. Although she’s been playing on the LPGA tour for eight years, this is her rookie season — one in which she has played solid golf and, just as important, gained credibility among her colleagues, especially when she went 3-0-1 for the victorious USA team in the Solheim Cup.
